'Start low and go slow' isn't a cliché here
It's the single most practical piece of advice for anyone new to THC, in any form. THC response varies enormously between people based on body weight, metabolism, prior experience, and even mood or setting. Assuming you'll react the way a friend did, or the way an average number suggests, is the most common way beginners end up with an experience they didn't want.
What 'starting low' looks like with a NICE can
A full NICE can is formulated to 5 mg of hemp-derived Delta-9 THC. For a first try, pour half the can — about 2.5 mg — rather than drinking the whole thing. That's not an arbitrary caution; it's a genuinely smaller, more conservative dose to gauge your own reaction to.
Waiting before deciding on more
After that half can, wait at least 30–60 minutes before deciding whether to have more. Brand guidance for onset is roughly 15–30 minutes, but that's a general range, not a guarantee, and it can take longer for some people. Deciding you need more after only ten or fifteen minutes is usually premature.
If you decide to continue
If, after waiting, half a can genuinely didn't produce a noticeable effect, finishing the can is a reasonable next step. There's no reason to jump straight to a second full can in one sitting — building familiarity with how one can affects you is worth more than moving quickly.
Rules that apply no matter your experience level
Regardless of dose, don't drive or operate machinery after drinking a THC beverage, don't mix it with alcohol, and keep it away from children and pets. It's an adult product for those 21 and older, it can cause a positive drug test, and it's not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding or without checking with a healthcare professional if you take medication.
