Two different kinds of effect
A THC seltzer and a beer or cocktail both produce intoxication, but from different compounds working through different mechanisms. That means the comparison isn't which one is 'stronger' — it's which set of tradeoffs fits what you want from the evening.
Calories, sugar and carbs
NICE cans are zero sugar, zero calories, zero carbs and zero sodium. Alcoholic drinks vary — beer, wine, and mixed cocktails all carry calories and often sugar, and that adds up over multiple drinks in a night. This is the most concrete, checkable difference between the two categories.
Onset and duration
Alcohol's effects are usually felt within minutes. A THC seltzer's brand guidance is roughly 15–30 minutes to onset and 2–4 hours of duration, though this varies by person and isn't guaranteed. That slower, less immediate feedback loop is exactly why pacing THC drinks matters — you can't judge 'how you're doing' as quickly as you can with a drink.
What doesn't change between them
Neither category is risk-free, and neither should be combined with driving or operating machinery. Combining THC and alcohol together isn't recommended — mixing the two doesn't cancel anything out, and combined effects aren't something we can characterize in advance. THC can produce a positive drug test regardless of whether alcohol is involved.
Who should be cautious with either
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, both categories should generally be avoided, and a healthcare professional is the right person to ask. If you take medication or manage a health condition, the same applies. Neither category is intended to diagnose, prevent or manage any condition.
